About Simpleshoes.com

The vision of Simple began in December 1991 by its founder Eric Meyer.

The impetus for Meyer's vision of Simple was to offer a modern alternative to the over-hyped, over-teched and over-marketed shoe products that had run amok in the marketplace. The main objective of his vision was to not only create a shoe that incorporated performance and style, but also was devoid of the usual stereotypes that attach themselves to many brands in the marketplace. According to Eric Meyer, "Simple shoes are the embodiment of athletic prowess, but without the attitude."

Though the notion of attitude often implies a negative connotation, it is the defining element that distinguishes the Simple ideology. At its core, the philosophy that Simple pioneers is all about its attitude, an attitude that finds its inspiration from Meyer's comical genius. The infusion of this genius into its cosmetic exterior allows Simple to represent a lifestyle that liberates consumer conciousness from the mundane.

Ascribing itself to a market filled with companies that proclaim themselves to be the foremost authorities in the lifestyles they represent, Simple reflects exactly what the name implies. According to Meyer, "Simple's mission is not the conquest of market share, or a burgeoning subculture created in its wake, but rather it is the creation of a medium that serves to represnt the company's goals and philosophy." These goals are met through Meyer's creative direction, which serves as a design and marketing inspiration for the Simple marketing staff.

Prior to Simple, Eric Meyer was the Art and Design Director for Vision Street Wear, a skateboarding lifestyle company in Southern California. At Vision Street Wear, Meyer was responsible for both creating and designing shoes and apparel marketed toward young men participating in the sport. In 1990, he designed a line of clothes for MTV as part of a liscensing package.

Simple was purchased by a large footwear company and closed its doors in 2010. The brand laid dormant until a passionate group of footwear people brought it back to life in October of 2014. Simpleshoes are busy working to bring back product from the past and to build a product for the future while keeping it Simple.

The shoes that Simple offers in its line are the culmination of a style that has been in circulation since the fifties. Influenced largely by the beatnik era, Simple shoes fuse fashion with function while supplying high radius gum-rubber outsoles, comfortable and supportive midsoles, and thick pliable leather uppers. For Meyer, "shoes are like life, a necessity that can't be avoided, so why not make it Simple."

The Simple OS is now available in retro form that stays extremely faithful to the original with its no-frills design and easy-to-wear colorways.

There's no gimmicky elements or flashy colors, just clean, two-tone suede and canvas uppers with memory foam cushioning. Perfect for those days when you want to keep it low key and not have to answer a dozen questions about your shoes.
